UPCOMING ELECTION INFORMATION

Important elections are coming up in May, 2026, which will be here before we know it. In fact, filing has just been opened for candidates in this election.

Several Federal, State and local candidates are up for re-election, all of which have both indirect and direct effects on our lives! Another type of public office that offers the opportunity to affect our County and local communities are local Committees, where members are appointed rather than elected. All About Precinct Committee Persons (PCPs)

In Oregon, a Precinct Committee Person (PCP) is a local party representative connecting voters to the party, with duties including boosting voter registration, distributing campaign materials, canvassing for voters, supporting get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts, electing county party leaders, and even filling legislative vacancies. They act as a vital link, working to energize local party activity for both Democratic and Republican parties during even-year primary elections, serving two-year terms.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Voter Engagement: Recruit volunteers, identify likely party voters, and encourage registration within their precinct.

  • Campaign Support: Distribute "slate cards" (endorsement lists) and campaign literature for endorsed candidates.

  • Election Support: Assist with GOTV efforts, putting up lawn signs, and connecting with local voters.

  • Party Governance: Vote on county-level party business and elect county party leadership.

  • Vacancy Filling: Participate in conventions to fill vacancies for partisan offices (like State Rep/Sen) or on the ballot if needed.

How They Get Involved:

  • Election: Elected during the May Primary Election in even-numbered years.

  • Eligibility: Must be a registered member of a major party for at least 180 days before filing.

  • Role: Connects the party structure to neighborhood voters, acting as a grassroots organizer.
